In this blog we are highlighting our picks for the best rotations for radiology specialty training. Our recent blogs have painted Radiology in a very positive light, it has been rated as the 3rd best specialty for clinical supervision and is one of the most reliable specialties in terms of the consistency of its training. In London, it was rated 2nd for overall satisfaction in 2016. With this being an increasingly popular specialty, we decided to find the hospitals which have the highest ratings.
How have we chosen our picks? We’ve used our Training Navigator, which uses ratings from over 40,000 junior doctors from GMC survey 2016, to give each rotation in each hospital a 5 star ranking. Rotations with 5 stars scored in the top 20% of jobs of that speciality and grade, whilst those in the bottom 20% will receive one star. This gives you an at-a-glance comparison of rotations. Read our guide for how to use the TN for more help.
Our top rated hospitals are listed below. These are the hospitals with the highest ratings across the board for radiology specialty training.
London hospitals fare well in our top 10
Usually the message with specialties is to avoid London. We’ve seen that is not well represented in our top picks so far. However, for radiology Great Ormond Street Hospital and Barnet Hospital make it into our top picks. Barnet is joint 5th for overall satisfaction and adequate experience and joint 1st for the quality of clinical supervision. Not on our top picks is also St Bart’s, also rated 5th for overall satisfaction and 3rd for adequate experience.
North/ North West are strong regions
North Tyneside is rated 1st for overall satisfaction and having a supportive environment and is in the top 10 for every measure, the only hospital to achieve this. Joining North Tyneside with 5 stars in every category is Warrington and Worcestershire Hospital. Whiston Hospital rounds up our top picks with 5 stars in every category except workload. Antrim Area Hospital represents the best of Northern Ireland, scoring joint 3rd for overall satisfaction, joint 1st for clinical supervision and joint 5th for providing adequate experience.
